This afternoon I seen a tweet from @stephenfry
MPs get medals just for visiting Afghanistan?? Surely that can't be right.
As you can imagine I was a little shocked at first and was about to jump right onto Google to see what was really going on. However @stephenfry beat me too it with a follow up message from @toryrascal
Hi Stephen. MPs don't receive medals for visiting Afghanistan - I've blogged about it
@toryrascal s article is a much clearer look at the situation and I would thuruly recommend anyone who is thinking about signing this patition should read before hand.
The medal referred to in the petition is actually an unofficial long service medal for those MPs who take part in the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, a programme that aims to give MPs a taste of life in the Armed Forces
...
Worse, with a BNP set on abusing the name and image of the Armed Forces, every person who signs that petition gives legitimacy to BNP candidates who claim to speak for the Armed Forces and try to whip up indignation against mainstream politicians.
